I am the younger brother of Bollywood in terms of the number of films releasing per year. Yes, your guess is right; I am none other than Tollywood!

I am very famous for dance moves, socio-fantasies, factionism, pure commercialism and some unimaginable stunts by Heroes. I experienced my best times when stars like the megastar, superstar and all other possible stars have shown their brightness.

However, I am not having the best of times right now. Yes, I am slowly sinking like the West Indies cricket team. On an average, around 225 films every year will come from my side (including dubbed ones). Once upon a time, I had a success rate of around 30 to 45 percent; now it has reduced to 3 to 4 percent. Yes, I am not able to produce good films which can pull public interest and draw them to sit for at least two and half hours in the theatre.

The simple reason for this is a mere lack of basics. All the directors, producers, actors lack the fundamentals. Going back to the grounds, a good film needs a good story line and a different screenplay. The present scenario in the industry is producing films with budgets of around 20 to 25 crores, marketing it impressively and releasing it to the public without a concrete story line-up

To my dear producers and directors, firstly, producing films like this is similar to playing cricket without a bat and ball, so, please go back to the basics and pursue them properly.

Secondly, if a film of one genre happens to achieve blockbuster status, it does not mean that taking another five or ten films in the same genre with almost the same story would lead to a huge hit. To be frank, that is a foolish ploy. Nevertheless, the same thing is happening in the industry. This trend has prevailed in the industry for the past decade; films like Badrinath and Sakthi were followed by the film Magadheera. All factionist films can be taken as examples for this. I beseech my dear heroes, try to be different and do not blindly follow what others have done.

My dear public, don’t you guys think that you may also be the cause for my present situation? Yes, you guys are also a reason for the current trend. Tollywood is not just a land for superstars and big-budgeted films. A good film is one that has a good story and screenplay. These two characteristics may feature in any kind of film and not just in a big- budget film with a good star cast. Please keep this in mind and encourage good films. Do not judge films just by word of mouth. Instead, please watch it by yourselves and then judge them.

I hope to get my good times back very soon and wish to see a hike in my success rate, which in turn will help me to cross my elder brother, Kollywood, in terms of revenue per year. So my dear directors, actors and the public; please help me to feel proud of having you as a part of me.
